Profile
Thank You For Visiting The Joseph Pobereskin Photography Website

Though based in the Chicago & New York City metro areas, my commercial and editorial assignments have taken me around the world and have led to publication in more than fifty countries. I studied photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and for eleven years thereafter I apprenticed with some of New York's finest photographers, acquiring expertise in various disciplines. In addition to my work making images I've been very active in the photographic community. I'm a founder and past (2000 - 2002) Board of Directors member of StockArtistsAlliance, a trade association for producers of rights-managed stock photography; I'm the immediate past-President (2005-2008) of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), past Vice President of the Chicago/Midwest Chapter, and I currently serve on ASMP's Board Of Directors. I'm also a member of Creative Eye, a photographers' cooperative, the Chicago Creative Coalition, and the the PLUS Coalition.

Technical Notes.

Cameras & Lenses: Over the course of my career I've used many systems from 35mm & Digital SLRs to 11X14 view cameras. Overall I prefer digital SLRs for the speed/ease in handling and the range of lenses available.

My current preference is for my Canon EOS digital cameras & Canon EF lenses (from 14mm to 600mm). In addition, one image each was created with a Hasselblad 500 CM camera & Zeiss T* lens, a Pentax Spotmatic II camera & Super Takumar lens, and an Olympus XA camera & lens.

Film? Yes, I'll be happy to shoot your assignment with film if you prefer. Though digital is now the state-of-the-art for professionals, I have a real soft spot in my heart for film-based photography. I'm still using Fujichrome color films, though I've also been using Kodak's E100VS, a remarkable film which I like very much. For years and years I'd used Kodachrome exclusively, but I now prefer the E6 films for their fine grain, excellent color & contrast, and most importantly, the ability to see results in less than one hour.

Black & White: I'm using Agfa Scala for black and white slides and Kodak's Portra for black & white prints. Portra is a C-41 process film (same as Kodacolor)... amazing.
